On social media there are posts galore about the validity of one particular player at Carlton, and by far from the past few years, the most controversial, Dale “Daisy” Thomas.
Let us disregard how he got to Carlton as that is in the past and there is nothing we can or should dwell upon, what we should look at is how has he performed for the club. The past few years have not been kind to Daisy with injuries, poor form as a result and the dismissal of his once mentor, Malthouse. At the beginning of 2016 Daisy changed, for the better. He made a statement that he was now fit, eager and ready to prove the Carlton faithful of what he is and can be capable of.
Let me get one thing straight, Daisy has always been a great mid-field player and I have always thought him a great player previously even though he did play for a much disliked club. That was then.
From the very start of the 2016 AFL season he has something to prove and from Round 1 he began proving his worth. In Round 5 he dominated the game with 3 fantastic goals and his tenacity and guts around the ball. In Round 6 he showed once again how bloody amazing this player is and he keeps getting better and better.
I watched AFL 360 and each commentator stated what I also believe that Daisy is showing signs of becoming the incredible player he once was. He is exciting to watch and throws himself into every contest he can. His footy foresight is stunning to see as he knows where to be and what to do. He is showing the Carlton faithful to have faith in him, and we do.
For those who don’t see it, don’t be blinded by who he used to play for and how he got to the club, which does nothing to ensure we get to where we want to get to. Daisy Thomas is a vital senior player who shows the younger ones what it means to be a top-notch player. Let us relish in the fact that we have this caliber of player in the team now for who knows what else he can contribute to the team and the younger players, irrespective of where he originally came from.
